The controversial issue of public smoking bans has Republican gubernatorial
candidate Lynn Swann at odds with his running mate, Montgomery County
Commissioner Jim Matthews.
Mr. Matthews recently suggested Pennsylvania should adopt a smoking ban for
bars, restaurants and other public venues. Speaking Monday to the Pennsylvania
Press Club, Mr. Swann rejected the idea.
"I'm of the opinion that smoking is legal," he said.
"What you have to do is give (businesses) the right to decide what they're going
to do in their business place."
