People who work in Puerto Rico's hospitality industry (waiters, waitresses, bartenders, busboys, musicians, etc.) deserve the same protection from tobacco smoke as all other workers.

ALL workers (including office, restaurant, bar, bingo, bowling, casino, tavern, pub, and nightclub workers) deserve a safe, healthy, smokefree work environment. Laws should treat the health of all workers EQUALLY.

No one should have to breathe tobacco smoke pollution to hold a job, because it causes cancer, heart disease, and respiratory disease.

California, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Maine, and Massachusetts have passed smokefree workplace legislation for ALL workers (including office, restaurant, bar, bingo, bowling, nightclub, and casino workers).

As more and more tourists come from smokefree destinations, they expect to find similar accomodations in Puerto Rico.

Smokefree workplace legislation is a matter of dignity and respect. All workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Todas las personas que trabajan en la industria de gastronomía, turismo y hotelería en Puerto Rico, incluyendo los de oficinas, restaurantes, bares, salas de bingo, boleras, casinos, tabernas y cantinas (“pubs”) y clubes nocturnos y de baile, se merecen la misma protección que los otros trabajadores, donde haya un ambiente de trabajo saludable, libre de humo. La ley debe tratar por igual la salud de todos los trabajadores.

El trabajo de nadie debe estar condicionado a tener que respirar aire contaminado de humo de tabaco. Este causa cáncer, enfermedades cardiacas y respiratorias.

Los estados de California, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Maine, and Massachusetts legislaron creando sitios de trabajo libre de humo para todos los trabajadores.

Los turistas que llegan desde esos lugares esperan igual trato en los sitios donde se hospeden y visiten en Puerto Rico. Tener sitios de trabajo libres de humo de cigarrillo es un asunto de dignidad y respeto hacia todos los trabajadores.
