Talking Points:

The tobacco industry and its front group, the National Smokers Alliance (NSA), have launched an assault on your right to breathe smokefree air in airports.

According to the tobacco industry's own internal documents and the NSA's newsletter, Big Tobacco has targeted smokefree airports across the country to build smoking lounges, and they're fighting the efforts of airports which are considering smokefree policies.

Industry executives and their lobbyists have met secretly with local elected officials and airport boards across the country to pressure them to adopt "smoke friendly" policies. "Smoke friendly" policies include smoking lounges and areas which are not enclosed and separately ventilated, and (at Richmond International Airport) new smoking booths.

The only acceptable ventilation solution is to construct enclosed, separately ventilated smoking rooms which are directly exhausted to the outside, to avoid recirculating secondhand smoke through a shared ventilation system.

It's time to let the airports you patronize know how you feel about breathing clean indoor air. Let smokefree airports know that you appreciate their policy; let the others know you want them to clear the air!
