A Philip Morris PR firm recently sent the following letter
to the Kansas City Health Department urging the agency
to join other health groups in urging Congress to enact
FDA tobacco legislation that benefits Philip Morris.

Dear :
Health organizations across the country are working to write letters in
support of FDA regulation of tobacco products. In addition, the American
Medical Association supports the proposed FDA regulation of tobacco.
On behalf of Philip Morris USA, we ask that the Kansas City Health
Department consider a similar letter to the Missouri Republican members of
the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has written a letter to the Kansas
delegation and has promised a letter to the Missouri delegation, in
addition, the Missouri State Chamber is writing a letter as well.
A suggested draft letter is attached for your review and consideration,
along with a list of fax numbers should you decide to write a brief letter.
The benefits of the proposed regulation include: health benefits; the
denial of tobacco products to underage children; enhanced warning labels on
tobacco products; and the best standards for manufacture and quality of the
products, as well as full disclosure of the contents of the products.
Should you decide to write and to fax such a letter, we ask that you also
fax us a copy -- 314.421.3191.
If you would like us to present more detailed information to your Board or
to an executive committee, we would be pleased to do so.
We appreciate your help please feel free to contact us with questions. As
discussed, we will be in contact with you Tuesday morning. Hope you enjoy
the holiday weekend and look forward to speaking with you soon.
Thank you,
Jennifer Riley
