Smokefree Law to take Effect April 3; Annual Meeting
Greetings!
The day we have been waiting for is almost here! On Monday, April 3,
D.C.'s smokefree workplaces law is scheduled to take effect with respect
to almost all indoor public workplaces except bars and bar areas of
restaurants, which are scheduled to go smokefree on Jan. 1.
To mark the occasion, Smokefree DC will hold its annual membership
meeting next week. Please join us at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 3, at
Busboys and Poets, 1390 V St NW. At the meeting we will:
* Hold our annual election of officers;
* Present information about the new smokefree workplaces law; and
* Provide volunteer opportunities for people who want to help
distribute information about the law to bars and restaurants.
We hope to have a representative from the Department of Health at the
meeting to explain what the city is doing to implement the law, as well
as brochures about the law.
Please note that only those Smokefree DC members who have paid dues as
of March 15 will be eligible to vote in the election. The uncontested
slate is as follows: Angela Bradbery, president; Jim Bogden, secretary;
and Michael "Tac" Tacelosky, treasurer. Angela and Tac are Smokefree
DC's co-founders; Jim has done a fabulous job as secretary for the past
year and sits on Smokefree DC's steering committee. If you plan to come
