Smokefree DC Meeting Monday/Smokefree Workplaces Law Takes Effect Monday
Just a reminder that Smokefree DC's annual membership meeting will be
held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 3, at Busboys and Poets, 1390 V St NW.
If you are a basketball fan, don't worry! We'll be done well before the
final NCAA game starts. We are holding the meeting to coincide with
the day that D.C.'s smokefree workplaces law is scheduled to take
effect. As of Monday, almost all indoor public workplaces will be
required to be smokefree, except bars and bar areas of restaurants,
which are scheduled to go smokefree on Jan. 1.
At our meeting, we will:
* Hold our annual election of officers;
* Present information about the new smokefree workplaces law; and
* Provide volunteer opportunities for people who want to help distribute
information about the law to bars and restaurants.
In addition, a representative from the Department of Health will explain
what the city is doing to implement the law, as well as brochures about
the law.
Please note that only those Smokefree DC members who have paid dues as
of March 15 will be eligible to vote in the election. The uncontested
slate is as follows: Angela Bradbery, president; Jim Bogden, secretary;
and Michael "Tac" Tacelosky, treasurer. Angela and Tac are Smokefree
DC's co-founders; Jim has done a fabulous job as secretary for the past
year and sits on Smokefree DC's steering committee. If you plan to come
