Talking Points:

No waivers.

Keep a level playing field.

Clean air and health are not something that should be waived.

Tobacco smoke causes cancer.

No one should have to breathe something that causes cancer to hold a job.

In the normal course of business, 1/4 of all new restaurants and bars go out of business in the first year. It has nothing to do with providing clean air.

The restaurant/bar business has extremely high turnover. A bar or club that is trendy this year might not be trendy next year.

In any given year, there are businesses whose revenues go down. If it happens this year, why would you assume it's caused by clean air?

New York does not allow waivers for any other health violation. Clean air should not be the first.

No other smokefree city or state has issued waivers.

No other smokefree venue, such as airlines, trains, or movie theatres, issues waivers.
